WebKeystone Glossary

Conventional Web Space
the spot where you normally store your web page files on your server. Your Startfile(s) and files for downloading from your site are stored here.

Endfile(s)
file(s) sent to the visitor's browser upon submission of the application; stored in your WebKeystone File Space and accessed and edited using the WebKeystone File Manager.

File Manager Login File
an HTML file which you store on your own computer and run from your Web browser, used to access your WebKeystone File Space, where you store your WebKeystone files. It is a form which contains your WebKeystone UserID and an embedded password. This is a private file which needs to be kept secure; it should not be uploaded to the server since anyone could then gain access to your WebKeystone File Space.

Imported Component
a Python module written by a trusted developer that extends the functionality of WebKeystone. Its scope is limited by the environment under which WebKeystone runs. It has access to WebKeystone's name space and WebKeystone UserID information. Examples of Imported Components are mysql, webident, and swishe.

Profile
a file which contains the logic or flow of the WebKeystone application; stored in your WebKeystone File Space and accessed and edited using the WebKeystone File Manager.

Shared Web Application
a Web Application that may be shared by more than one UserID, ie. WebKeystone account. The administrator grants access to Shared Web Applications. Examples of Shared Web Applications are the Events Calendar, the WebKeystone File Manager and the SQL Database Manager.

Single Web Application
A Web Application that is limited in scope to a single UserID, ie. to a single WebKeystone account. Most developer applications are Single Web Applications. Examples of Single Web Applications include all of the forms in the Learning Center.

SQL Database Login File
an HTML file which you store on your own computer and run from your Web browser. It is used to access your SQL Database Space. It is a form which contains your WebKeystone UserID and an embedded password. This is a private file which needs to be kept secure; it should not be uploaded to the server since anyone could then gain access to your WebKeystone File Space.

SQL Database Manager
the tool for managing the SQL Database, accessed via your SQL Database Login File.

SQL Database Space
the private area where your SQL Database is stored; accessed via the SQL Database Manager.

Startfile
any HTML file which starts WebKeystone; stored in your Conventional Web Space. Accessed and edited using any HTML or text editor and FTP program.

Web Application
a collection of cooperating Profiles, Startfiles, and Endfiles that implement a web-delivered application. Web Applications are written in WebKeyscript. The system is protected from errant or malicious Web Applications by a security layer. Resources consumed by Web Applications are recorded in accounting and logging files. Web Applications are divided into Single Web Applications and Shared Web Applications.

WebKeyscript
WebKeystone's scripting language.

WebKeystone File Manager
the tool for managing the WebKeystone File Space, accessed via the File Manager Login File.

WebKeystone File Space
the private area where your Profiles and Endfiles are stored; accessed via the WebKeystone File Manager.

WebKeystone UserID
an access code assigned to you, used by the system to identify your WebKeystone files.
